No this is not a photo of us taste testing ice cream (although ice cream would be uh-may-zing right now). THIS is a photo showing you the difference between unrefined and refined shea butter! For those of you who don’t know; you can purchase shea butter in two different forms: refined or unrefined. Refined is the cheaper of the two, but it isn’t the best.
Refined shea butter (or refined oil/butters in general) have been chemically altered to remove the natural scent as well as making them bleach white in colour. This process, which typically includes chemicals and heating- destroys a lot of the natural benefits of the oil and leaves only a small portion (if any) behind. Companies typically choose this option as it is cheaper- has no scent to interfere with their fragrances and also so they can easily colour their product without the hassle of the natural colour being present.
Unrefined however; has had no chemical processing nor heat applied to it. This allows the butter/oil to keep ALL of its amazing benefits- which will then be passed on to the final product.
So, when you read all the benefits of your product, you may receive SOME of them, however; unless the company is using unrefined, which a lot of companies aren’t- the product will not be as beneficial as one that uses the unaltered form.
Here at tlc body we are proud of the fact that ALL of our body batters use unrefined shea butter. We want our product to maintain all of their amazing benefits; and have them passed on to you. We also have successfully paired scents that work perfectly with the very subtle natural fragrance of the butter- so it doesn’t interfere at all
